A dry, but blustery day greeted members of Exmouth Sea Angling Association who headed slightly inland to fish the river Otter estuary recently, writes Simon Boere.
Target species for the day were the hard fighting, yet tricky to catch grey mullet and several anglers managed to connect during the day.
Members employed such methods as trotting, spinning and float fishing to lure the shy mullet to the hook and come the end of the event, accomplished specialist ‘mullet man’ Andy Browning of Exmouth took the top spot with a brace of thin lipped mullet for 142 per cent.
Browning also took the £20 spot prize for best fish of the day for a fish of 2lb 15oz.
Second place went to Andy’s partner Shauna Browning who recorded 107 per cent and in third spot was Brian ‘the Viking’ Reed with 91 per cent.
