Westexe 1, Brixington Blues 4
Brixington Blues Under-16 eased their way into the next round of the Exeter and District League KO Cup with a well deserved success over their Exeter-based hosts.
What made the victory all the more impressive was that Westexe play a Division higher.
The Blues were boosted by the return to their side of Mike White from his spell at Exeter City and his quick thinking and business-like approach made the difference from the off.
It did not take long for Blues, with Joel Rendall and John Hocking combining well to begin to build some early pressure and they took the lead when Hocking crossed for Ben Rowlands to score at the far post.
It was 2-0 in the 25th minute when Rowland squared for Hocking to pass the ball into the back of the home net from the edge of the area.
The home side rallied and came back strongly, but got precious little change out of the Blues defence, and in particular Harry Trick and Harry Moxey.
After the break the lead was extended when Josh Richards pushed forward and took a smart pass from Tom Hurley before sending Rowland away and he in turn found Joel Rendall who applied a clinical finish.
Westexe eventually beat Blues glovesman Max Tooby with a late goal, but there was still time for Blues to bag a fourth with Rowlands tucking away a free-kick to complete the scoring.
Blues coach Mike Trick said: There were some commanding performances throughout the team and that was most evident even when we were under pressure, which was very pleasing. What was also noticeable was the way the players supported each other in all areas of the pitch.”
