Brixington Blues 3, Newton Abbot 5 (after extra time)
Brixington Blues Under-14s put aside their league troubles to take the high-flying visitors to extra-time before they were edged out.
All six goals in normal time came in a frenetic first half. Aaron Chung put Blues ahead, but Newton Abbott were soon level and then led 2-1 only for Jason Mann with a superb solo goal, to restore parity.
The visitors regained the lead, but battling Blues were not to be denied and went into the break all square thanks to Cameron Brown.
The second half produced no further goals and so the tie went into extra-time. Newton Abbott struck first and only the depth of the bar denied Blues a fourth goal when Brown’s header cannoned back off it.
A late fifth sealed the Exmouth side’s fate.
Blues boss Steve Gibbings said: “My players gave everything and at the end the Newton Abbot coaching staff were gracious enough to acknowledge that we had played some great football.”
