St Martins 3, Brixington Blues 4
Brixington Blues Under-11s returned from their trip to St Martins with a deserved three points, writes Alan Diprose.
Blues struggled to find their rhythm at first and it was St Martins who opened the scoring in the fourth minute.
Shortly after, Isaac Davies delivered a tremendous free-kick which Blues just failed to convert. Will Cooper produced a number of fine saves to deny the hosts further goals and, with the assistance of some excellent defending by Matthew Rye, helped the Blues to reach half-time just two goals in arrears.
After the break the hosts began strongly and were denied by a great save by Matthew Edworthy, now playing in goal, and another scoring opportunity was stopped by a superb last-ditch Luke Buck tackle.
Gradually Blues built up a head of steam and they were on the comeback trail when Finnley Doyle-Stott lashed the ball into the net from a Sam Diprose pass. Owen Shaw and Max Rickards began to orchestrate things from midfield, but the Saints struck next to lead 3-1! That lead was swiftly cut to one goal when Will White sent Sam Diprose clear and he slotted the ball home with his left foot.
With time ticking away an Isaac Davies corner was turned home by Tom Humphry to level the scores.
With just seconds remaining Will White powered a header into the net with what proved to be the last action of the game to seal a dramatic Blues victory. On Saturday Blues take on champions-elect Stoke Hill.
