Brixington Blues 2, Copplestone 3
Brixington Blues Under-11s welcomed Copplestone to Withycombe Common last Saturday, writes Alan Diprose.
When the pair met in Mid Devon before Christams Copplestone had run out emphatic 8-0 winners so this was a game that Blues wanted to give a much better account of themselves in.
As both sides found their feet, Owen Shaw and Matthew Rye were instrumental in some great Blues build-up play.
When Copplestone did find their way through Tom Humphry, deputising in goal, stood firm making one particular save that was simply stunning!
As half-time approached Blues marksman Sam Diprose opened the scoring when he rifled a left foot shot past the despairing dive of the visiting gloves man.
At the break Blkues made a change with the goalkeeping gloves taken on by Matthew Edworthy with young Humphry taking up his more usual midfield berth.
Two minutes into the half and Will White fired the Blues into a two-goal lead.
Blues thought a rare win might be on the cards, but a fine Coplestone headed goal got them back into it. Matthew Edworthy made some fine saves, but was powerless to prevent a rejuvenated Copplestone scoring twice more to win 3-2.
Blues were disappointed to lose, but had proved their football had come a long way in recent months.
Next up, the game away to St Martins in Exwick this Saturday.
