Brixington Blues Under-10s had mixed fortunes in two games at Tiverton-based Twyford Spartans, writes Alan Diprose.
The opening game was against top of the table Twyford Spartans which, on paper, looked a very tricky encounter.
On a small pitch the home side enjoyed the better of the early exchanges and took a sixth minute lead.
Blues responded well and levelled when good approach play by Jake Diprose set up Will White to score.
Spartans then looked to get back on the front foot, but they found Blues keeper Will Cooper once again in the sort of form he has been displaying all, season long!
Changes were made at half time, but, try as they did, Blues just could not add to their tally whilst Spartans were clinical with three more opportunities to land a 4-1 win.
The winning margin may well have been greater, but for the performance of Blues defender Luke Buck who made some outstanding challenges.
Next Blues took on the tables’ basement side Twyford Gladiators.
A switch was made to let Will Cooper play out field and Tom Humphry took on the goal keeping duties. Cooper showed some silky outfield skills.
However, despite enjoying large periods of possession, Blues were unable to find a first half score and half time arrived with the game still seeking a first goal.
That all changed in the second half once Sam Diprose broke the deadlock, and now playing with more confidence, took charge.
Leading scorer Will White added two more to his season’s tally, both thanks to assists from Jake Diprose as Blues bagged a 3-0 win to finish the morning sitting fifth in the table.
