The first round of the new Exe Table Tennis junior league came to a thrilling end on Tuesday night where the eighteen participants fought it out to secure the top two positions in their respective division and gain promotion.

Andrew Rock had already secured his place as top of division three in previous matches, but still won his last game against Jack Barrington in a tough five games match; 11-6, 8-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6.

Yana Tushingham, the youngest player in the three divisions, lost her last match against Michael Shuker; 12-10, 5-11, 11-4, 8-11, 9-11, but came a very respectful second in the division due to her previous wins.

Division two was dominated by Ryan Britton who won all five of his matches and only conceded four games.

Second place was fought out in the last week between Jack May and Joe Heard, and, after a close five game match, May won; 12-10, 7-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-13 and secured promotion to division one.

Top seeded players in division one were out played by Aaron Sansom who did not concede a match and won the division easily.

In the last week Wojciech Cyron had an easy match against Chris Wardle and won in three straight games 13-11, 11-3, 11-3 to secure second place.

The league will start again at the club on Tuesday night at the Community College after promotions and relegations have been worked out.

Colin Rowland very kindly loaned the club his Olympic Torch for the evening and all the winners were given the opportunity to hold and have their photo taken with it.
