Withycombe Under-9s won one and lost one in meetings with Topsham.
In the first match it was Topsham who started at great pace, racing into a five try to nil half-time lead.
Clearly the interval coaching talk did the trick for Withy were inspired in the second half scoring seven tries to the further three that Topsham got.
Sadly the come-back was not quite sufficient to bag a win as Topsham were 8-7 victors.
Fleet-footed pair Charlie Passmore and Harry Bennett again led the way with hat-tricks of tries and there was also a score from Erin Asselman.
The second game saw Withy land a 12-8 win.
Harry Bennett posted a second hat-trick of tries for the morning and there were two more for Charlie Passmore and doubles also for Harry Williams and Erin Asselman. Single scores were clocked by Joe Farmer, Alfie Gillard and Joseph Bowden.
A Withy spokesperson said: “The boys are really starting to find the game to their taste.
There was some excellent direct running from Sam Skinner, Ollie Hempstead, Charlie Tyler and solid tackles from Jack Cortizo, James Griffin and Paddy McGuiness.
The tackling is improving and special mention for two try saving tackles from Joseph Bowden and Charlie Passmore which had both sets of supporters applauding.”
The Withy Man of the Match award went to Ollie Willis for his constant work rate. This Sunday sees the team engage in a training day to refresh the new skills the players have been learning in their early season matches.
