Starcross 0, Bank United 6
United sailed into the quarter finals of the Knock-Out Cup with a comprehensive victory.
In a nervy start, a James Armstrong error almost gifted the hosts a first minute goal, but the United players was rescued by his keeper Graham Lewis who made a fine save.
The corner was cleared and a swift counter-attack followed that saw Jon Chalkley and Guy Privet trade passes prior to Phil Sanders opening the scoring.
The lead was doubled within two minutes when a left wing raid by Privett saw the ball crossed for Adam Gendall to tee the ball up for Chalkley to net.
The hosts rallied, but got no change out of the organised and solid United back line.
A first-time clearance by Armstrong released Sanders to run on and make it three and a fourth arrived shortly after when Warren Vaughan’s clever play set up Jamie Drummond to rifle the ball home.
The fifth and final goal of a dominant first half display arrived when a clearance from Sam Weeks was gathered by Sanders who thumped it home to seal a hat-trick.
Bank boss Adam French then shuffled his pack, replacing attacking full back Gendall with Will Ficken at the interval.
The second half saw less attacking by Bank, who instead showed real quality with the way they kept the ball and they enjoyed large periods of possession throughout the half.
On the hour Sanders made way for Chris Manning before the sixth and final goal, scored by skipper Sam Weeks from the penalty spot after a Stuart Tuckett cross had been handled.
James Armstrong was named the Bank Man of the Match and next up for the team is this Sunday’s league meeting with the very same Starcross Generals outfit.
The difference this time is Bank have home advantage for a game that kicks off at 10.15am.
The Bank finished the game 6-0 to the better with James Armstrong nominated as Man of the Match.
