Axminster tennis ace Hurst into final of U18 girls’ doubles at 2014 Nike Junior Tennis Championships

Junior tennis doubles Emma Hurst from Axminster and Joely Lomas from Swansea have progressed to the finals of the 18U girls’ doubles at the Nike Junior Tennis Championships after defeating Jasmine Amber Asghar from New Malden and Ellie-Rose Griffiths from Kidderminster 6-4, 7-5 at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

The Nike Junior Tennis Championships are the highest level competition for all juniors and the pinnacle of the summer domestic calendar. The tournament features more than 250 players across four age groups and is a showcase for British tennis and the best junior talent in the country.

Having run for over 100 years, the tournament has an illustrious line of past winners including Andy Murray, Heather Watson, Tim Henman, Elena Baltacha, and Anne Keothavong.

Hurst and Lomas will now face Madeline Brooks from East Anglia and Ella Monsey from Ipswich in the final of the 18U girls’ doubles tournament which will take place today (Wednesday).

The tournament runs until Friday (August 22) and is held simultaneously at the Nottingham Tennis Centre and the West Hants Club, Bournemouth.
