Axe Valley Pedallers enjoy bluebell cycle

08:10 21 May 2014

The Axe Valley Pedallers celebrated the arrival of Spring with two recent rides to see the bluebells, writes Rob Watson.

Nineteen riders were out in the lanes of Dorset taking a circuitous route from Axminster along the Stopline Way, then via Waggs Plot, Tilworth and Dodpen Hill before eventually dropping to sea level at Charmouth. Coffee and cakes were enjoyed at the beach café in Charmouth before tackling the inevitable climb back out to Wootton Fitzpaine and the challenging ascent from Monkton Wyld to Raymonds Hill, where the group split up, somewhat tired, to return home.

Pedallers were also out on the previous Wednesday on a short easy ride to Blackbury Camp.

This Iron Age fort, inhabited over 2,000 years ago, has one of the best displays of bluebells in our area and a particular atmosphere of its own, which the riders were able to savour while they enjoyed their own venerable tradition of eating cake.

Details of future Wednesday and Sunday rides at Axevalleypedallers.org.uk, or find us on Facebook.
