There was a strong AVR presence at this year’s Otterton Reindeer Run, a very festive event sporting many Christmas outfits amongst the competitors, writes Dave Mutter.
A 10k multi-terrain race, it starts with a hard climb out of Otterton with stupendous views towards the sea at Budleigh, before settling down into a slightly less challenging route back along the Otter Valley to Otterton.
In the men’s race, won by Matthew Menary from Haldon Trail Runners, the first AVR back was Matt Hewer, who finished fourth in a time of 39:46.
The next AVR home was Alan Morbey, 39th in a time of 48:25.
The other AVRs with their finishes and times were: Roger Bramley, 43rd, 50:18, Andy Hartnell, 49th 53:54 and Robert Kerr, 83rd, 1:04:40.
The ladies’ race was won by Ellie Dominey of Haldon Trail Runners. Not far behind, Karen Eyre completed in a fantastic third in a time of 44:14.
Margaret Pearce was 12th in 51:33 running with her sister Caroline French, who finished 13th in 51:44.
Other AVR finishes and times were: Louise Burridge, 29th, 56:37; Louise Kerr, 39th, 58:54; Bec Davey, 57th, 1:1:39; Janet Woodward, 111th, 1:15:23; Gill Day, 112th, 1:15:24; and Sam Halls, 130th, 1:22:24.
