Archant

Patrick Devine-Wright turned in another serious performance on Saturday when he beat the previous fastest time we know of for running the East Devon Way, writes Dave Mutter.

The 38-mile inland route from Exmouth to Lyme has 5,000 feet of climb and is largely off-road yet only took him five hours and 34 minutes; that’s roughly equivalent to doing two three-hour Grizzlies back to back!

He didn’t so much as pause at the end of the way proper, but kept powering on to reach the end of The Cobb in 5:47.

His run was made that much harder by the heat, particularly on the big climbs during the middle of the day but he was helped tremendously by his by-pacers carrying food and drink and even opening gates for him. Garry Perratt and Alex Todd ran alternate legs each with Amy Greenhalgh joining the fun from Northleigh, and a stupendous day’s running was had by all.
