THERE were some shock results at Newton Poppleford Carnival on Saturday, including Sidvale Carnival Club being knocked off its top spot by young farmers.

With a clean sweep of firsts and best in shows up until the weekend, Sidvale’s slick Mickey’s Express was forced into second place by the spooky Halloween float of Axminster Young Farmers.

Comic underdogs, so far this season, Nunsford Nutters CC kicked rivals Nymphos into touch with Hey Big Suspender.

Money collected will be used to help organise next year’s carnival, which costs about £3,000 for the village to stage.
