Pupils at Drake’s Primary School will be giving people the chance to buy local produce when they hold their first farmers’ market.

The event will take place at the school in East Budleigh on April 3, between 3pm and 5pm, and is being held as part of the school’s Food for Life Partnership work.

As well as food from local producers, shoppers will also be able to buy crafts from local artists.

All pupils at Drake’s have been involved in setting up their own stalls for the market, and some of the older children have taken on more responsibility by making decisions about what they will be selling, and working out how much to sell their products for.

Money raised from producer stall fees and the sale of the school’s own produce will go towards farm visits, food education and supporting the school’s allotment.

Teacher Caroline Foster said: “The children have worked really hard in producing, making and growing products that they feel people will want to buy.

“As a whole school we are really excited and looking forward to meeting lots of new people in our local community.”

All are welcome to attend the market, which the school is hoping will return on a termly basis.
