Exmouth’s teenage tennis ace Jack Findel-Hawkins has smashed his way into the world’s elite.

Community College student Jack, 18, of Cranford Close, has garnered a top 1500 world ranking as a singles and a doubles player following a fantastic run of form over the last three months.

This culminated in a top-class showing at the recent futures Pro-series event in Cardiff last week.

The event, which has prize money of up to £50,000, features many of the world’s up and coming players.

Jack came through a tough draw beating Bastian Trinker from Austria, ranked 690 in the world, then beat the seventh seed Neil Pauffley, who is ranked 454.

Jack, who trains at Exeter University with coach Will Mcnally, finally lost in a thrilling game which included a tie-break.

In the doubles event he then teamed up with fellow junior Alex Gasson to surprise the number three seeds, before losing in the semi-finals to the number one-seeded pair.

He continues to study in his second year of A-levels and, from August, has been offered a four-year tennis scholarship in Jacksonville, North West Florida, USA.

In the meantime, Jack continues to juggle studies, coaching, tournaments, family and having a girlfriend.

Jack said: “I am confident that I can now compete at this level and if I continue to work hard I believe I can fulfill my dream of becoming a professional tennis player.

“I am excited about America and this will help develop me as a player and a person.”

Dad Simon said: “I am thrilled for Jack, we have always believed in Jack’s ability and it’s great to see his hard work paying off.”

You can see Jack play locally at Exeter University during the men’s British tour event held from March 11 to 16.
