A military historian is the latest author to join the line-up for this year’s Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival.

Allan Mallinson will be talking about his book 1914: Fight the Good Fight, marking the centenary of the start of World War One.

Allan is the author of the series of historical adventures of Matthew Hervey, and also a defence commentator for the Times.

He is replacing author Xiaolu Guo who has had to pull out of the festival due to unforeseen circumstances. Allan will be talking at Temple Methodist Church at 10am on September 20.

He is not the only writer who will be marking the centenary of the Great War at the event. Others set to do so include Kate Adie, who will be talking about her book Fighting on The Home Front, and Michael Morpurgo, who will be discussing his anthology Only Remembered, as well as his forthcoming novel Listen to the Moon, which follows a young girl living on an island after the sinking of the Lusitania in May 1915.

Tickets for festival events are available online, or from the Tourist Information Centre on 01395 445275.

The festival, which is in its sixth year, has had a great response to ticket sales so far, with several sell-outs already, including events featuring Fay Weldon, James Lovelock, Michael Morpurgo, Hilary Mantel and Louise Doughty.
