Work to repair cycle trail

Work is starting this week on repairing the Exe Estuary Cycle Trail, which was damaged by flooding over the Christmas period.

A hole around a metre across opened up in the path between Lympstone Station and Lympstone Commando Training Centre after severe weather, which also disrupted trains on the adjacent railway line.

A temporary repair was put in place to allow cyclists to use the path again, and now a permanent repair is being carried out to the path, which will see Devon County Council contractors underpinning the washed out sections of the trail, and carrying out other repair works.

At the same time, Network Rail will also be repairing the railway bridge, wall and embankment, which is likely to require temporary closure of the trail for short periods during the week - not weekends - to allow them to complete their heavy work, immediately adjacent to the trail.

The council is asking cyclists and pedestrians to take care and to pay attention to any warning notices that indicate temporary closure.
