Warning over fake fraud officer scam

People are being warned to beware of fake trading standards officers making house calls.

Devon and Somerset Trading Standards says it has received reports of fake officers telling people they are eligible for a refund or compensation on work if they pay £1,000.

Trading Standards says its officers would not ask for money, and advises to always ask for ID, and call their office through a Directory Enquiries-obtained number - not a number the caller provides themself - to check.

If the caller refuses, the householder should shut the door, and if they feel threatened call the police.
