The East Devon countryside is once again set to be taken over by people walking or riding their bikes for charity.

The 12th Rotary Club of Exmouth and District Walk or Ride will take place at Bicton College, East Budleigh on April 27.

It is a sponsored ‘family-fun’ event for people who want to raise funds for their favourite charity, club or other good cause or, alternatively, for anyone who would like a pleasant outing in the country.

The event is designed for participants of most ages and abilities, who can choose from three different countryside walks of approximately five miles, eight miles and 12 miles in length, or a 14-mile cycle ride.

Participants over 16 years of age are asked to make a donation of £5 each to the Rotary Club - money that in turn will go towards helping other charities.

This event is aimed at individuals, charity and fundraising groups who wish to raise money for their respective charity, organisation or cause without the need for managing the event itself – all they have to do is collect sponsors and complete the course, with the Rotary Club handling all the organisation.

John Thorogood, chair of the Walk or Ride committee, said: “In 2013 we raised nearly £9,000 and we are looking to significantly increase that figure. We are especially grateful to our sponsors, Symes, Robinson & Lee, Stuart Line Cruises and Vibrant Pulse, who have been extremely generous to help fund the Walk or Ride 2014 and to our many other supporters including Hands on Health and Bikelands of Exmouth, and Otterton Mill Restaurant/Café who will be will giving a 20 per cent discount to participants.”
