Members of charities and community groups in the Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton area have until just Friday August 31 to book their place at a district council event which seeks improve communications between the voluntary sector and public bodies.

The conference “Working Together for the Future of East Devon” is on Friday September 14, and runs from 9.30am to 2.30pm at East Devon District Council;s (EDDC) Knowle offices in Sidmouth.

Representatives of voluntary organisations, community groups and town and parish councils are all invited to attend. The aim of the event is to improve communications between the voluntary and statutory sectors.

During the day, people will find out more about significant charity sector, health, well-being and welfare reforms that are happening nationally and how they will affect East Devon.

Councillor Jill Elson, EDDC cabinet member for sustainable homes and communities, said: “We want to listen to people and hear about the excellent work they do in our communities. This is a great opportunity to exchange information on matters that will affect local people.”

Guest speakers include representatives from the Directory of Social Change, who provide information and training for the voluntary sector worldwide, and NHS Devon.

Delegates will also have an opportunity to find out information useful for grants applications and can comment on EDDC’s draft council tax support scheme.

Invitations for this free event have already been sent to town and parish Councils and some community and voluntary groups, but there are still a few places left.

Places are limited to one per organisation or group and must be booked in advance.

Anyone attending is invited to bring with them items of non-perishable food such as packets of dried food or tinned goods, which will be collected by Honiton Food Bank and later handed out to needy families in the area.

To find out more or book a place please e-mail jbuckley@eastdevon.gov.uk or phone (01395) 517569 and provide the name of the person attending, their contact details and the name of the organisation being represented before Friday August 31 2012.
