What ever happened to democracy.
In June 2011, an application was submitted for a development of 25 dwellings on land to the rear of Glebelands/west of Strawberry Hill, in Lympstone.
At a parish meeting we said this was outside our village boundary and not needed.
We informed Lympstone Parish Council of buried tyres on the land and gave a petition of 61 names.
The parish council tried hard at first, with a survey to identify housing needs and 11 houses were needed - the magic number to make it an exception site.
Our parish council started a neighbourhood plan, in April 2012 and believed nothing would happen until this plan was in place. Housing in the village, as set out by East Devon District Council, was a need for 40 houses and all could be found in the current building boundary.
A planning application went to EDDC, with the magic number of 10 affordable houses and five on open market, which we believe was agreed with certain parish councillors but not all.
In May 2012, a planning letter was sent to us, but when asked about this at a parish meeting, at the top of the agenda on the night was dog poo.
The parish council reluctantly objected to it but didn’t submit it. We believe the deal had been done and a parish councillor told us they didn’t want to go back on their word .
Also the same parish councillor told us we make the decisions, not you!
Now the village is open to all developers, with housing being built around the village. If so, we will need a secondary or a primary school, maybe Courtlands, what an ideal location with easy access to highways etc.
Maybe even a supermarket.
This was all about a bigger picture not 15 houses on land to the rear of Glebelands, for which we believe there have been discussions with EDDC for 80.
