East Budleigh’s village shop has boosted the local economy by stocking products from local artists, gardeners and bakers.

The shop opened in 2008 and last month they signalled their intention to build a permanent shop which would be open by the end of the year.

Chairman John Tresidder said that two projects in particular had seen the shop live up to its slogan ‘Fresh and Local’.

“It has been a real success,” he said. “The home-baked cakes, following on from our first baking project, have proved very popular – and profitable. “Barbara Rainford and Julie Smith and their team have been out selling cakes in all weathers and have attracted many new customers.

“The village vegetable growers have provided a stream of fresh and varied produce.

“Our bakers and growers have devoted a great deal of time and effort on these projects, and we really appreciate it.

“An excellent variety of cards from local artists and postcards from Peter Bowler have also contributed to our local feel.”
