Otterton residents are finally set to get a community shop of their own, after an agreement on a venue was reached by organisers.

The Otterton Village Shop Committee has been trying to find a suitable location for a shop for two years, but faced constant set-backs, most recently with a delay in the proposed re-ordering of St Michael’s Church.

However, at the recent village hall annual meeting, the hall committee, having realised the strong need for such a shop, offered the village shop committee the use of the snooker room adjacent to the village hall, for an initial period of two years.

The news means the shop committee can press forward with their plans to open a shop in the very near future.

Committee member Viv Crump said: “We are absolutely delighted that things are moving forward, and we are really looking forward to working with the people who run the village hall.”

The shop committee is now preparing for its own AGM, which will take place at the village hall on March 1 at 10.30am.

It will be a chance for shop shareholders to enjoy a coffee, get an update on the plans, and view the location of the new shop.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a shareholder is asked to contact Jill Gladstone on 01395 567857 or Patricia Firmin on 01395 568449 for more information.
