Topsham residents are being given the chance to have their say about the future of the town’s library.

The charity, Estuary League of Friends, is taking over the running of the library later this year and is conducting a survey with help from Devon County Council about how the library should be run and what new facilities people would like.

It will also cover aspects such as the library’s opening hours, and whether members of the community would be available to help run it.

The charity’s long term plan is to replace the current library building with a new community hub, which would provide better facilities not just for lending books, but also for the charity’s services, which currently include day centres, lunch clubs, transport and home services.

The charity’s chief executive, Rachel Gilpin, added: “We also offer information for the community and have recently started IT training for those currently without internet access, along with much more work on helping those with memory issues and their carers.

“That’s why we need a new, permanent base to accommodate many of these facilities as well as being a focus for the community. Our survey includes a question asking how local people would like the new building to look in terms of finish and render.”

The survey is available online at www.estuary-league-of-friends.co.uk, or a paper copy can be picked up at the charity’s Topsham shops or from the library.

If anyone cannot access the survey online or in person, they can call the charity on 01392 879009 for assistance.
