Two people have been taken to hospital after a car crash on Exmouth seafront.
As reported earlier, the accident happened on the Esplanade at around 9.40pm yesterday. Witnesses say the car, a blue Audi A4 Quattro, left the road and crashed through a wall outside the Bathhouse pub.
Police, fire crews and the ambulance service attended the scene, and a person trapped inside the vehicle was rescued by firefighters.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A fire engine from Exmouth was sent to this incident but on arrival they requested the attendance of another fire engine for manpower due to someone being trapped inside the vehicle.
“The crews assisted ambulance personnel with the casualty and made the vehicle safe.”
According to police reports, the driver, 19, was treated for suspected back injuries, and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, along with another person, who according to witness reports was a pedestrian hit by debris.
During the incident the Esplanade was closed for several hours between the Clock Tower and the Carlton Hill roundabout.
