TV chefs’ praise for Exmouth

TV food duo the Fabulous Baker Brothers say their week filming in Exmouth was ‘like a dream’.
Tom and Henry Herbert, who present a show for Channel Four, spent a week in Exmouth and East Devon with the aim of creating an iconic dish for Devon.
Using local produce, they produced three dishes, then got locals to vote for the winner – a decision that will be revealed when the programme airs.
Tom said: “We’re on a mission to find regional dishes that represent the best local produce and embody the spirit of the place.
“While the South West is famous for cream teas Devon doesn’t really have anything that seems to sum up the great produce that’s available.
“We were tasked to create the Devon dish, and we wanted it to be iconic – something that will draw people into the town, something easy to recreate and that will be taken up by local pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops.”
The brothers’ recipes will now be given to the town’s eateries so they can offer the brothers’ creations to customers.
During their week in the town, when they were based at the Beacon Vaults, the brothers went out on the Exe with the Exmouth Shanty Men, and met local councillors, business owners, residents and tourists to help shape their ideas.
Tom said: “It feels like it’s gone down really well and that there was a real need for it. This is like a dream for us being able to meet these relaxed, friendly, up-for-it people and champion their great produce.”
Henry said: “It’s just been a fantastic opportunity to not only experience a great town and a fantastic county but try and give something back that hopefully can benefit the town and the area.”
The brothers’ show is set to air on Channel Four in January.
