Flooding has affected town centre roads in Exmouth this morning, after the town was hit by unusually high tides.

There are reports of flooding as far inland as the corner of St Andrews Road and Imperial Road, with water reaching car door sill height.

The Esplanade has also been closed due to the conditions, which at times saw waves more than 10 feet high crashing over the seawall.

The Environmeng Agency has issued a flood warning for the East Devon coastline, due to high spring tides combined with a surge, and rough seas, and evidence of this was also seen at Budleigh, which also had high waves on its beach.

There were also reports of flooding in Topsham, with around a foot of water on the Topsham Quay car park, and flooding along the Strand, which was closed.

Paul Hodgson of Sails and Canvas said: “We’ve got a foot of water right outside our property here. It’s the worst I can remember since 1987 or 1988.”
