Topsham’s grand litter pick-up takes place next month, when volunteers meet at 10am on Saturday, March 9. Read this and more.

HOMEWARE SALE: An eclectic range of vintage, recycled and handmade homeware is on sale in Topsham every Friday, from 10am until 3pm, at St Nicholas church hall. Entry is free.

OPEN MIC AND JAM: Musicians and singers of all ages and abilities are welcome to showcase their skills at Topsham’s Globe Malthouse’s open mic and jam sessions.

The next one will be held on Sunday, February 17. For more information, call Martin on 07917 771 651.

SATURDAY MARKET: A host of stalls sell a variety of goods, including fresh produce, small antiques, curios, plants, toys and more, at Topsham’s Matthew’s Hall, every Saturday, from 8.30am to 1pm.

The weekly market boasts around 30 stalls. Entry is free.

BIRDWATCHING EVENT: The latest St Margaret’s Church Birdwatching for Beginners event is taking place this Saturday.

The event, which is open to all, begins at Holman Way car park at 9am – not 10.30am, as was incorrectly stated in last week’s Journal.

From there, participants will walk to the nearby RSPB reserve for the birdwatching, before returning for coffee and cake at the church rooms at around 10.30am.

The event is free, but advanced booking by tomorrow lunchtime (Friday) is preferred, by calling David Byrne on 01392 758557.

PRAYER DAY: Women’s World Day of Prayer is being celebrated in St Margaret’s Church on Friday, March 1, at 2.30pm.

The women of France have this year organised the world get-together women’s ecumenical service.

RACE NIGHT: Topsham Bowling Club is holding a horse racing evening on Saturday (February 16).

An open pairs’ skittles competition is planned for Saturday, February 23, at 1pm. Those wishing to take part must sign in by 12.45pm.

HISTORY BOOK: A book charting the history of Topsham has been reprinted and copies are available from the museum, priced £19.95.

Topsham: The Historic Port of Exeter features more than 250 archive photographs and aims to show the town as a “living, working town”.

LITTER PICK: Topsham’s grand litter pick-up takes place next month, when volunteers meet at 10am on Saturday, March 9, to clear the recreation ground reed beds.

The clean-up starts at Halyards, heading north, and will take place whatever the weather. Volunteers are advised to wear boots and gloves.
