An ‘inspiring’ Budleigh hairdresser has been crowned one of Britain’s top employers - alongside some of the world’s largest corporations.
Daniel Neaves, owner of DKN Hairdressing in Budleigh High Street, is one of the 100 employers of the year recognising excellence in business and apprenticeships in the UK.
It follows Daniel winning the South West Employer of the Year in his category - he then went on to the nationals. Daniel went head-to-head with some of the big beasts of the British economy, and beat off 1,500 entrants.
Other entrants included Barclays, Virgin Media, Serco, Hitachi and McDonalds.
The awards ceremony evening was held at the LG arena NEC Birmingham and was hosted by Timothy Campbell MBE, winner of the BBC hit series The Apprentice.
Deputy Prime Minster Nick Clegg was present at the event and gave a speech on how important Daniel’s contribution to creating economy-creating apprenticeships was for the future of the country and its economy.
Daniel said: “There was some strong competition and to be up with some of the big names in the country such as ITV, BT, and HSBC Banking and Starbucks coffee company was great. I’m very proud.”
Employee Gemma Gelder said: “In the nine years that I have worked for Daniel he has trained me and given me confidence and lots of amazing opportunities.
“He is very inspiring and has always made me feel like I want to strive for the best.”
DKN is taking part in this years Budleigh Salterton’s late-night shopping on Friday, December 6.
This year he is doing something a little different - Ian Boyde who made it to boot camp in The X Factor two years ago, is joining the team for the evening providing entertainment with requested songs and, of course, Christmas songs.
The event starts at 6.30pm.
