Team testing time in Otterton and other news

Popular quizmaster Peter Whatley will be testing teams in Otterton Village Hall. Read this and more.

PLANT TALK: A talk on “Some unusual plants” is being hosted by Otterton Garden Club.

It is being given by Chris Britton of High Garden Nursery, and takes place at the village hall on Tuesday, February 19, at 7.30pm.

Admission is free for members, £3 for non-members, and some plants will be available to buy.


TORY AGM: The Budleigh Salterton branch of the Conservative Party is holding its annual meeting.

It will be held at the Peter Hall on February 23 at 11am, and will include reports from county councillor Christine Channon, district councillors Steve Hall, Tom Wright and Alan Dent, and Devon County Council leader John Hart.


LYME TREASURE: A talk on ‘The Marine Treasures of Lyme Bay’ is being held in Budleigh.

It is being given by Dominic Flint, the sustainable fisheries officer for Devon Wildlife Trust, and hosted jointly by the Otter Valley Association and Fairlynch Museum.

The talk is being held at the Peter Hall this Monday.

Doors open at 2pm for a 2.30pm start. Admission costs £1.50 for members, £3 for non-members.


BINGO: Budleigh Salterton Lions Club is holding a cash bingo evening.

It takes place at the Public Hall next Wednesday, February 20, with eyes down at 7.30pm.

It will cost £1 for ten games and two fliers, and refreshments and a raffle will also be available.


WINE TASTING: The Friends of All Saints East Budleigh’s wine tasting evening is taking place this Saturday.

It is being held at East Budleigh Village Hall, and starts at 7.30pm, with tickets on the door costing £7.


OTTER TALK: A morning of talks and an exhibition on the River Otter is being held this Saturday.

It is being held by the Otter Valley Association at the Peter Hall in Budleigh, between 10am and 12.30pm.

There will be talks by David Jannaway and Patrick Hamilton, and an exhibition by the association’s artists and photographers. Refreshments will be available.


ROOF RAISER: Popular quizmaster Peter Whatley will be testing teams in Otterton Village Hall at 7.30pm on Saturday, March 9.

Teams are invited to sign up for the quiz night which will help raise cash for the hall’s new roof fund.

Mr Whatley is popular with quiz regulars and will be asking questions on a wide selection of topics, while keeping the atmosphere lighthearted.

Tea, coffee and biscuits included, or bring a bottle. Table for four £10 individuals £2.50. Call 01395 567574 to book.


ANGLO-FRENCH SOCIETY: The next meeting is on Monday, February 18, at 7.30pm in the Masonic Hall, Budleigh Salterton. Odile Cook will give a talk in French about A La Ronde.
