Archant

IT was set phasers to stun as Kobi Kirby rocketed into the semi-finals of BBC Three’s reality show Hair earlier this week.

And with just four contestants left in the hairdressing competition, it’s possible that the 16-year-old hair stylist from Exmouth could make it to the final.

Kobi had a stunning fourth round.

Shown on Tuesday (March 18), his perfectly polished chignon shone through, his blockhead cut passed muster and his ‘alien extraterrestrial’ won the freestyle challenge.

Kobi was delighted to have made it to the show’s semi-final.

“It was amazing,” he said. “Wasn’t it just great? I’m so happy!”

First up was the chignon hairstyle, which had to be ‘perfectly polished’. Although this round wasn’t rated, Kobi’s cut was top-notch.

Judge Alain Pichon praised the ‘immaculate” design’ and its ‘good proportion’, while judge Denise McAdam said it was “stunning” with ‘a beautiful shine’, ‘exactly what we asked for’.

Kobi was less successful in the blockhead challenge, but pulled out all the stops in the freestyle challenge with a sci-fi theme.

His alien extraterrestrial, with sculptured horns, topped off with pinned braid, was a winner.

Judge Denise McAdam said it was ‘beautifully done’, and screamed ‘elegant, alien prince’, while Alain Pichon highlighted its ‘remarkable’ construction.

When it was announced that he’d won the round, Kobi was taken aback. “Oh gawd!” he said, smiling. “I’m shocked, but yes, pleased!”

What was the most difficult part of the sci-fi challenge?

“Making sure that I reached the brief,” he said. “With such a specific theme, I had to make sure that it reached that brief… I had to have that look of it.”

The semi final sees the remaining four contestants tackle ‘gravity-defying’ mohicans and a freestyle challenge of ‘brides’.

What can we expect from him?

“Lots!” said Kobi, smiling.

The fifth episode of Hair is at 10pm on Tuesday, March 25, on BBC Three.
