A new café and bar has opened in Exmouth’s The Strand.

Sundowners – at the old premises of The Place – is the brainchild of Welsh-born Helen Jenkins and partner Martin Stormont, originally from Bournemouth.

The couple had previously owned a successful bar and café – also called Sundowners – in Mossel Bay, South Africa.

“And now we’ve come back to our roots to start in Exmouth,” said Helen. “We plan to be a health choice with vegan options as well as some meat choices during the day. Then, in the evening, a nice place to have a drink with friends, plus tapas.”

Helen is vegan herself.

“It’s a growing movement,” she said. “People are becoming more aware of what’s happening in the meat industry, so that’s why I’ve changed and I wanted more availability. But I’m going to do both options, so that everyone can eat together.”
