The generosity of a sea angler from Exmouth has safeguarded the town’s RNLI crew. The generosity of a sea angler from Exmouth has helped safeguard the town’s RNLI crew.

Former Exmouth Sea Angling Association president and honorary life member Stan Langdon recently donated £500 to Exmouth RNLI after he learned that new kit was needed by the volunteer crew members, writes Becca Gliddon.

Exmouth Sea Angling Association junior members Kieran Richardson, Kayleigh Rowe, Toni Browning, Kerri Browning and Callum Rowe presented Mr Langdon’s cheque to Exmouth lifeboat coxswain Tim Mock.

The cash was donated following a letter written by Mr Langdon, who now lives in Northern Ireland, to the sea angling club.

Mr Langdon, a member of the club for decades and who still recalls its formation in 1921, said: “I have heard that the crew were in need of new lifebelts, so I thought I would like to help out.

“I have always held the lifeboat men in the highest esteem, who are willing at all times to risk their own lives to save others.

“It’s nice for them to know just how much some folk care.”

A spokesman for the Exmouth Sea Angling Association said the junior members had enjoyed a tour around the lifeboat station and the chance to go aboard the all-weather lifeboat.

“The Exmouth Sea Angling Association has always supported the local RNLI but thankfully have never had to call on their services,” the spokesman added.

“The club recently held its annual RNLI charity shield event, with all proceeds going to the local stations, and again this year we raised over £100 for this most worthy cause.”
