Residents in Honiton take on a cycling challenge with a difference.

Honiton got into the spirit of Children in Need and residents showed their pedal power to help St Paul’s Church reach its target of cycling to the BBC Television Centre in London - without going anywhere.

More than 20 people, including the Mayor Councillor David Foster and town clerk Lyn Hargood in full regalia, took up the challenge on the two exercise bikes located outside the church last Friday.

The cycling started at 9am and continued into the afternoon - the exercise bikes combined reached the target.

Cakes and biscuits sold also went down a treat and donations flowed in throughout the day.

Rector Sue Roberts said: “My legs ache a bit but I have been amazed by the response from the people of Honiton. They have been so generous - thank you to everybody who contributed by making cakes and biscuits, lending us the bikes, cycling and digging deep to raise such a great total.”

Jill Spring and Simon Rose were the lucky winners of the sweepstake to guess how far the two bikes would get. The event raised a total of £760 for Children in Need.
