Signal problems cancel trains to and from Exmouth

Rail passengers between Exmouth and Exeter are facing disruption this morning (Friday) due to the current stormy weather.

First Great Western says signalling problems mean lines are blocked, and trains on the line are being cancelled.

Replacement road transport services are conveying passengers between Exeter St Davids and Exmouth in both directions.

Engineers are currently assessing the problem, after which an update on when normal services are likely to resume will be provided.

Update: First Great Western has said the problems were caused by a lightning strike, and advised passengers not to use the route between Exmouth and Exeter today unless absolutely necessary.
