The Co-operative says it will be improving the appearance of a vacant shop it owns in Budleigh High Street.
The store, which is opposite the current Co-op store, was described last week by Budleigh Salterton mayor Courtney Richards as “shabby”.
The store is currently on the market for rental, but a Co-op spokesman says some work will take place.
The spokesman said: “We are still actively marketing the property and steps are being taken to improve the appearance of the shop frontage.”
The firm last week ruled out a suggestion that it could reopen the vacant unit itself to reduce clutter in its existing store.
