Exmouth and Torbay lifeboats have resumed searching for an Exmouth fisherman who was lost at sea on Tuesday when his trawler capsized and sunk.

The search has resumed this morning for a missing fisherman from Exmouth whose trawler sunk on Tuesday morning.

A major air and sea rescue was launched when Brixham coastguard picked up a distress alert from the fishing vessel Girl Rhona at 11:24am on Tuesday, informing them that fishing vessel Sarah Jayne had capsized 2.5 miles off Berry Head, Brixham.

Two of the three Exmouth fishermen onboard were rescued from the water by the passing trawler.

A third man, named locally as Sarah Jayne skipper Geoff Ingram, was still onboard when the vessel capsized.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokeswoman said she was unable to confirm the name of the missing man until police had notified next of kin.

Exmouth and Torbay lifeboats resumed searching the area at 9am on Wednesday morning, accompanied by several local fishing vessels.

Police divers are expected to search the waters later today.

A cordon has been set up in the waters where the trawler capsized while the search continues.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokeswoman said: “The search continued at nine o’clock this morning. It’s involving Torbay and Exmouth lifeboats.”
