Exmouth Gig Club raised £127 for the town’s RNLI after challenging the public to race on rowing machines.
Exmouth RNLI’s coffers have been boosted thanks to the town’s new local gig rowing club.
Exmouth Gig Club raised £127 for the charity by holding a rowing competition and selling bottled water during the recent RNLI open weekend at the seafront boathouse.
Visitors were challenged to see how fast they could row on rowing machines, with prizes for the quickest man, woman and child.
The club also took part in a man overboard demonstration along with Exmouth RNLI crew and lifeguard volunteers showing the crowds the old rescue methods using rowing boats compared with today’s modern methods of the D class lifeboat George Bearman and a lifeguards’ jet ski.
The club raised a total of £255, which was split between the RNLI and gig row club.
