BLOOM: Helping Budleigh in Bloom to prune roses and prepare flower beds has benefited Bicton students.
Horticulture lecturer Ben Murrell said: “Helping the local community and working in a real life situation is great for our students.
“Last year’s RHS Level 2 Practical students planted the roses for Budleigh in Bloom as part of their course syllabus, and this year’s students have pruned them; it’s a rewarding situation for everyone involved.”
NEW HANDYMAN: Budleigh Town Council’s new handyman and caretaker is Simon Mitchell.
Eight people were interviewed and 30 applied.
‘SCRAP’ METAL: Metal which was stolen from the Greenway Lane Allotments was not scrap.
Councillor Tom Wright said: “It wasn’t scrap, in fact it was metal somebody had put down ready to move.
“The offender offered money to the person it was stolen from which was refused.
“Police are now pursuing an investigation.”
ANNUAL MEETING: The annual town meeting has been set for Thursday, April 5.
Neigbourhood planning and the localism bill could be among the hot topics discussed on the day.
GARDEN CLUB: The next meeting of Budleigh Salterton Garden Club will be on Friday, February 24, at the Football Club.
The talk will be by Mr Charles Dowding who will speak on Growing Vegetables - No Dig Method.
The club last met on Friday, January 27, at the Greenway Lane venue for its AGM.
This was followed by an interesting talk by Mrs Helen Whitmore, of the Devon Gardens Trust.
APPROVED: Plans to extend a Budleigh home have been approved by East Devon District Council.
The owners of 4 Sherbrook Close applied to build a two-storey extension.
REJECTED: A Budleigh shop has been refused permission to keep a sign at the junction of Granary Lane and the B3178.
East Devon District Council said that Pyne Farm Shop could not have a sign there.
It suggested the shop could negotiate with highways officials to obtain a brown road sign.
LOFT CONVERSION: Alterations to a Budleigh home have been approved by East Devon District Council.
The owners of 76 Granary Lane want to build a two-storey extension, along with a loft conversion.
