Exmouth hospital received special thanks from an East Budleigh woman for the care staff gave her much-loved mum during the last few weeks of her life.

An author from East Budleigh has raised more than £700 for Exmouth hospital in memory of her much-loved mum.

Married Rosemary Smith, of Brookfield Road, teamed up with her sister, Irene, to organise a charity evening of food and fun in aid of the Geoffrey Willhougby Ward, where the sisters’ mum, Beatrice Darling, spent the last few weeks of her life.

Beatrice’s daughters were so touched by the level of care and attention their mum received at the end of 2011 thatthey recently booked East Budleigh hall and laid on a buffet for an evening of dancing, accompanied by band Carnaby Street.

The event raised £714 for the ward, which the sisters recently presented.

Great-grandmother Rosemary, who began writing on the advice of her neurosurgeon following the removal of brain tumour, said: “My sister and I organised a charity evening to raise funds for the Geoffrey Willhougby Ward, at Exmouth hospital.

“Our mum spent the last weeks of her life there last year, and was cared for so well.

“Irene and I wanted to give something back.”

“We were supported very well, and raised a good sum of money.”

Rosemary and Irene thanked all who supported the event, especially Krispies fish and chip shop, the Savoy Cinema and Tesco for donating raffle prizes.
