Exmouth’s Town Crier has something to shout about after claiming silverware at a recent town crier competition.

Roger Bourgein took part in the Hatherleigh Town Crier competition, held as part of the town’s carnival, and won prizes for best dressed crier, and best crier overall.

Roger said: “It’s a prestigious town crier competition, steeped in history and tradition.

“All the crowds [from the carnival] are there and it’s a lovely atmosphere.

“I was very proud to win and to represent Exmouth.”

Exmouth Town Council has also sent its congratulations to the town crier, with Councillor Steve Gazzard describing him as: “A wonderful credit to Exmouth.”

Roger’s win comes as he prepares to host Exmouth’s own town crier competition, as part of this year’s Christmas Cracker, in the Strand on December 1, which will see town criers from across the South West taking part.
