CHARITY RIDE: Dave Rogers and Mark Tregale cycled from their homes in Exmouth to South Western Ambulance Service Trust HQ in Sowton on Christmas Eve.

The intrepid travellers sporting Santa and Elf outfits, respectively, raised a total of £400.36 for Exmouth and Lympstone Hospiscare thanks to the generosity of their friends, family and work colleagues at the ambulance service and at JLT in Exeter.

Dave wishes to apologise to all those unlucky enough to spot him in his Santa “onesie” and in particular Mark who foolishly agreed to take part.

ROADWORKS: Motorists could face disruption later this month, with more roadworks planned for the A30 near Exeter.

Overnight closures are planned on the westbound carriageway from Daisymount Junction to the junction of the A30/C832 near M5 Junction 29.

The closures will be over five nights from Monday (January 21) to Friday, January 25, from 8pm to 6am, to enable overhead gantry signs to be replaced.

During the closure the A30 Daisymount Junction westbound on-slip will also be closed, as well as the airport junction westbound on-slip.

Diversions will be in place. A30 westbound traffic will be diverted from Daisymount Junction via B3180, Half Way Inn, A3052, A376, Sandygate roundabout, Moto roundabout, Moor Lane to Moor Lane roundabout.

Traffic wishing to go westbound on the airport slip road will be diverted to Daisymount to follow the diversion towards the Moor Lane roundabout.

The C832 access to the Junction 29 southbound entry slip and the A30 westbound will remain open.

BENEFITS: An East Devon-based Tory MEP has blasted the government’s “family unfriendly” child benefit reforms.

Giles Chichester said the 2010 Conservative manifesto had pledged to make Britain “the most family-friendly country in Europe”.

But he said: “[The child benefit cut] ignores the joint family earnings of couples and instead concentrates the benefit cut on a single parent’s earnings. This is patently unfair.”
