OLD SHIP: A black canopy to the rear of an old Exmouth pub has not been supported by town planners.

The proprietor of The Famous Ship Inn, High Street, Exmouth, has begun work on a black canopy to the rear of the pub.

Councillor Maddie Chapman said: “They should come up with a better idea. It looks tacky.”

Councillor Steve Gazzard said: “This is almost a retrospective application.

“Work is well underway. I have concerns about the dark nature of the cladding.

“I think it is quite out of keeping with the area - the area is full of white buildings.

“I don’t know if he intends to paint the cladding.”

Planning chairman Lynne Elson that this was the latest in series of applications at the address where the applicant had started work before planning consent had been given.

She said: “This should be pointed out to planning officers.”

The plans will now be considered by the district council.


NEW BUSINESS: New business Taylor Made Nails, in Exeter Road, will be opening on Saturday, February 9 at 10am.

This new venture is the brain child of Emma Taylor, 26, and her mother, Jenny Taylor and family friend, Karrie Woodley.


NEW TOWN: East Devon councillor Andrew Moulding is giving a talk on the new town of Cranbrook’s past, present and future tommorrow (Friday) from 2.30pm in the Hatton Room of Kennaway House, Sidmouth.
