‘Procession of the Mace’ in Budleigh Salterton

Students in gowns and mortar boards were took part in the annual ‘Procession of the Mace’ in Budleigh Salterton last Saturday.

The students, who have completed foundation degrees at Bicton College came together with their families and invited guests for their graduation ceremony.

They were led from the Public Hall to St Peter’s Church where they were addressed by Mark Stone, associate professor at Plymouth University.

The graduates had studied subjects including outdoor leisure management, animal science, equine studies, horticulture, agriculture and environmental education.

Special awards for the highest achievers were donated this year by NFU Mutual and East Devon District Council, as well as the university.

Bicton College principal David Henley, said, “This ceremony is a highlight in our academic calendar for higher education graduates.

“It’s was a great opportunity to celebrate the wonderful achievement of each and every one of our students, many of whom have had to rise to great challenges to achieve their goal.”
