Police negotiators were called out in Exmouth yesterday to talk a man away from a cliff edge at Orcombe Point.

Devon and Cornwall Police responded at around 2.30pm after concerns were raised for a man’s welfare in the town.

Coastguards from Exmouth and Beer helped with the search for the man.

A police spokesman said: “The coastguard assisted in the search and police negotiators managed to talk the man down and away from cliff edge.

“The man was left in the care of healthcare professionals.”

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman said that an ambulance did attend and the man, although uninjured, was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to be checked over.
