Police are appealing for information after a burglary in Brixington

A police helicopter was launched on Tuesday evening to track down a suspected burglar who fled a building site in Exmouth after the sudden arrival of officers.

Devon and Cornwall police said officers went to the former Hillcrest School site, in St John’s Road, at around 6.30pm after reports two men were trying to break into the portable cabins.

Police said a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and taken into custody. He was later released without charge.

Another man was seen to flee into nearby woods, police said.

Officers found one of the site office cabins had been broken into and items, including a radio, had been stolen. A second cabin was damaged.

Police found the discarded radio nearby.

The cost of the damage to the cabins is thought to be around £400, said police.

Devon and Cornwall police are appealing for information in relation to the crime and are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything to get in touch.

They have released a description of what the alleged offenders were wearing.

Both were wearing hooded tops – one green, one black.

If you can help police, call 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting crime number KE/14/981.
