Police alert over car crime spate

Police are urging residents to be vigilant foloiwng an increase in car crime in Exmouth

Exmouth’s residents are being urged to become the ears and eyes of the police following a spate of car crime in the town centre.

Last week several vehicles parked in The Colony and Withycombe Raleigh suffered overnight criminal damage and property was stolen.

Police are urging anyone who sees someone committing car crime to call immediately.

Officers are also keen to hear from residents who spot someone acting suspiciously in the areas where the crimes have been committed.

Police community support officer Karen Capey said: “There has been a spate of car crime within the town centre of recently.

“The neighbourhood policing team would like to remind members of the public to call the police on 999 immediately if they see a crime being committed.”

A Devon and Cornwall police spokesperson said: “Exmouth police would like to urge local residents to be extra vigilant due to a spate of criminal damage to parked vehicles, notably within The Colony, Gussiford Lane and Regents Gate area.

“The vehicles are subject to extensive scratching of paint work, including offensive wording. We need your help in order to detect who might be responsible.”
