The director of landowner Clinton Devon Estates (CDE) says that 350 new homes in the Maer Valley, dubbed ’Plumb Park’, would be the best site for development in Exmouth and would benefit plant and animal life.

CDE want to build the homes in an area of just over 11 hectares or 27.5 acres, with approximately 31 homes per acre.

The development would be spread over several fields spreading out from behind the Pankhurst Close industrial estate.

A couple of 100 metres away from the industrial estate would be a Hill Top Park, adjacent to the current cycle path that leads to Jarvis Close.

The earmarked land is a green wedge that can be seen at this point.

However details of designs and landscaping are unknown because the plans are at their ‘strategic’ stage.

But CDE insists that the benefits include a park which will be available for use by the whole community, the potential regeneration of Pankhurst Industrial Estate and improved access to the countryside.

John Varley, estates director, said: “Littleham is without doubt the most sustainable location to meet the required housing for the town because it would future proof agricultural activities around Exmouth, and in particular the Maer Valley, helping to

protect the hinterland.”

He added it would lead to an increase in plant and animal life: “(The existing) maize fields do not encourage biodiversity where well planned housing, open space and green infrastructure could.”
