Archant

Exmouth‘s World of Country Life could be crowned the best large visitor attraction in Devon later this month.

The attraction has made it into the finals of the Devon Tourism Awards 2013.

There are 14 categories in the competition, which is now in its fourth year with 44 businesses selected as finalists – on November 13, they will learn whether they have won Gold, Silver, Bronze or Highly Commended awards.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Grand Hotel in Torquay, hosted by Judi Spiers.

The World of Country Life will be going head-to-head with Crealy, Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh, RHS Garden Rosemoor, Great Torrington, and The Big Sheep, Bideford, in the best large attraction category.

The nomination follows major investment in the attraction in 2011 and three years of rising visitor numbers and takings.

Manager James Turner said: “It’s been a great year for the World of Country Life, and now to be in the finals of the Devon Tourism Awards is the icing on the cake.

“In 2011, we invested heavily, and last year more people visited us than ever before.

“This year it has been even better, and our takings are up by 10 maybe 15 per cent and we are getting some great reviews on Tripadvisor.

“We have ferret racing, a deer train, a petting farm, falconry, walk a goat, classic cars and a Victorian street. We have something for everyone of all ages, for the kids, for mum and dad, granny and grandad.

“But our strongest point is our staff, their infectious enthusiasm and hard work.”
